The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced an increase in fees for Nigerian standard passports, effective September 1, 2025, to ensure the quality and integrity of the document.

The adjustment applies only to applications made within Nigeria, while diaspora fees remain unchanged.

For applications within Nigeria, the fee for a 32-page passport with a five-year validity will rise to N100,000, and the 64-page passport with a 10-year validity will now cost N200,000.

Nigerians abroad will continue to pay $150 for the 32-page passport and $230 for the 64-page version. The NIS emphasized its commitment to balancing quality service with accessibility for all Nigerians.

“This adjustment reflects our dedication to maintaining high standards while ensuring the passport remains within reach,” said ACI AS Akinlabi, the Service Public Relations Officer.

The fee hike comes as the NIS seeks to address rising production costs and enhance passport security features. Applicants in Nigeria will need to prepare for the new rates starting next week, while those in the diaspora face no immediate changes. The NIS has not indicated further adjustments but highlighted ongoing efforts to streamline application processes.

The decision may spark discussions on affordability, particularly for low-income Nigerians, as the government navigates economic challenges and public expectations for efficient services.
